The Prime Rib
1101 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, MD
Have you ever dreamed of dining in a 1940s-style supper club that features a wait-staff in formal attire? The Prime Rib provides a throwback steakhouse experience, with the restaurant’s history stretching all the way back to 1965 with the chain’s original location in Baltimore.
Head to the heart of the Mount Vernon’s Cultural District to enjoy a renowned filet mignon, or spring for one of their seafood selections. When your meal is done, peruse the dessert list for something to satisfy your sweet tooth. They also offer an impressive selection of wines, perfect for pairing.
Miss Shirley’s Café
1 Park Place, Annapolis
The thing that sets Miss Shirley’s Café apart is the emphasis on breakfast. The Texas-style stuffed French toast, chicken and waffles, fried green tomatoes, cheesy eggs and the gargantuan Maryland omelette are just a few reasons to get reservations at Miss Shirley’s. The great service, comfortable atmosphere and rave reviews are also a convincing testament to this Annapolis eatery’s many virtues.
The café tends to stay pretty busy, so reservations are encouraged.
1012 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore
Italian restaurants have become pretty ubiquitous in the U.S., so much so that the traditional flavors and recipes can get lost in translation.
La Scala is the exception.
Specializing in Sicilian recipes and dishes, La Scala strives to make its high-end dining experience as authentic as possible. There’s even a bocce ball court in the front of the restaurant!
La Scala is widely considered the best restaurant in Little Italy, and it’s easy to see why: their famous espresso martinis, stuffed chicken breast, specially-roasted olives, and lobster Regina are particular stand-outs on La Scala’s impressive menu.
Be sure to get reservations if you have a larger party or plan on visiting during dinnertime.
The no-nonsense food is a godsend for Baltimore diners looking for simplicity and good flavors without all the fuss.
Captain James Seafood Palace
2127 Boston Street, Baltimore, MD
Captain James is the perfect spot for seafood lovers who want a more whimsical dining experience without sacrificing fresh, high-quality cuisine.
The restaurant specializes in crab, with fresh crab, crab cakes and crab dip among the options you can choose from. Captain James is also famous for its scallops, and its generous portion sizes: 1 order of scallops is enough to fill up even the hungriest seafood lover.
If you want to try a little bit of everything, consider the seafood platter, which offers tastes of all of Captain James’ most famous creations.
1 Olympic Place, Towson, MD
Head to Towson for a meal at this modern American grille, which specializes on wood-fired pizzas and outstanding cocktails. In fact, Cunningham’s boasts a team of expert mixologists who will create a drink to fit your particular tastes.
Peruse the menu, and you’ll find mouthwatering items like the cornmeal fried oysters, filet mignon, crab cakes, braised short ribs and, of course, their pizzas. And you can enjoy everything in good conscience, too—they utilize ingredients that were sourced from local farmers, growers and producers.
